We are keeping the dream alive for a quality skatepark in our town of Las Vegas, New Mexico. On January 4th 2014, we met with our Mayor Alfonso E. Ortiz, at which he stated that he would like to get something going regarding this project. He suggested to submit our proposal to the City regarding potential sites for a skatepark. We have taken a closer look at three different potential sites for building or rebuilding a safe, state-of-the-art skatepark in our community. On April 8, 2014, we submitted a proposal to Parks and Recreation, the City Mayor, and to members of the City Council for potential skate sites. We think a central location will be the most ideal and beneficial for our community. Many communities are replacing dated modular skateparks, and with support of our City leaders, we can work together to build a humble, but quality concrete skatepark in our town for 50K or less ( Click Here). With in-kind donations, using recycled lumber for concrete forms, grant-writing by us and the City, and with the support of the general community, the dream will become the reality. Thus, we now trust our City officials to examine and discuss the proposal we have submitted and offer some constructive conclusions that might eventually lead to our goal. We also hope the local skate and bmx community, and the general community of Las Vegas, will continue to support this effort and participate in constructive ways to help shape what will ultimately be their park.
